Santa Fe, NM – Democrats in the House and Senate stand united working on job creation. Democrats are putting partisan issues aside to focus on actions that can be taken immediately, as well as in the short and long term to address the top priority of New Mexicans. Democrats have a plan to put New Mexicans to work today and are not willing to wait.
The three point plan discussed today is:
- Democrats propose the 97.4 million dollar publics work bill “Work New Mexico Act”. Democrats believe we can put New Mexicans to work building the infrastructure needed for economic growth. These are urgent, shovel ready projects that Democrats, Republicans and the Governor can all agree will get New Mexicans working right now.
- Democrats are focused on four areas of sustained economic growth and development. The four areas of focus are Technology, Energy, Value Added Agriculture and Film. Democrats in the legislature are already working on multiple bills focused on innovation and expansion of existing industries. These include training the work force of the future through cooperation with our universities, incentives to businesses that create more jobs and hire New Mexicans, plans to continue to build the infrastructure that creates a good business environment and the expansion of existing industries.
- Democrats in the House and Senate are creating a Jobs Council. This task force will focus on job creation and innovation. Together with partners from the business community, educational community and labor, we can find long term solutions. Democrats know that only with all the interested parties at the same table can we find real job creation solutions. The 13 member council must report its finding by November 1st, 2013.
In the coming weeks the joint leadership of the House and Senate will keep the public informed about the total costs, number of jobs that will be created, and accountability measures in place for all of the job creation bills.
