Aman Khan to speak to Rotary

Aman Khan will be the Rotary speaker on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Khan will speak about his personal journey from India to Pakistan to America.

Khan has had an interesting and varied career, having been born in India and migrating to Pakistan during the partition of India, then eventually immigrating to the US, where he worked in the Pakistani Embassy and later for technology companies before starting his own business and eventually retiring to Silver City.

Rotary meetings are held every Tuesday from 12 noon to 1 pm, at WNMU’s Student Memorial Building, Second floor, Sunset Room. Meetings are free and the public is invited to attend. Art Show Opening Reception “Reflections by 2 Artists: Tilton & Thomas”

Everyone is invited to the opening reception of the FIRST Grant County Art Guild art show in our beautiful new show space: THE STUDIO. "Reflections by 2 Artists: Tilton & Thomas" features literal and figurative reflections by two local artists, Sally Tilton, and Jo Thomas. The reception will be held from 5-7pm during the SCAA First Fridays Gallery art walk. Refreshments will be served and both artists will be on site to discuss their work. Gila National Forest hosts business outreach conference April 12

Staff will be available to help contractors and job seekers enroll and start earning 

SILVER CITY, NM, March 24, 2023 – The Gila National Forest is partnering with the Small  Business Administration and Procurement Technical Assistance Centers to help southwestern New Mexico contractors become eligible for opportunities to win federal government contracts and help job seekers learn about and apply for federal jobs. Together, they are hosting a day-long  workshop at the Grant County Convention Center at 3031 US-180 in Silver City from 9:00 a.m.  to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. 

“There are dozens of job openings on the Gila National Forest, hundreds on public lands in the  Southwestern Region, and thousands across the United States,” said Gila National Forest  Supervisor, Camille Howes. “We have a lot of work to do and funding available to accomplish it.  We need employees and contractors to help us get the work done, and we want to spend locally  whenever possible.”

Silver City Mainstreet Director to Speak at PFLAG Meeting

Silver City, NM, March 27, 2023—Sharla Lefkowitz-Oberg, director of Silver City MainStreet, will be the featured speaker at the April 4 meeting of PFLAG Silver City, 6:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served.

Lefkowitz-Oberg has extensive experience in downtown revitalization, community building, advocacy, marketing, communications, and administration. Originally from Upstate New York, she lived in Silver City from 2012-2013 and now has returned with her family. Meeting attendees will learn of MainStreet’s past successes and upcoming projects and be able to ask questions about how MainStreet and the LGBTQ+ community and its allies might collaborate and support one another.
