SC Public Library - WWI/American Legion display

 The Allingham- Golding Post 18 American Legion at 409 West College Street was chartered in 1919, and is one of the first 10 posts chartered in New Mexico after WWI.

Post 28 offers coffee and donuts for veterans every Wednesday from 8-11 am. It will host a special guest speaker, Aisya Salas, a Cadette from West Point Academy, on November 22nd at 9am. The public is invited to this, and also to see how the post has archived local veterans' service— from the Fort Bayard Buffalo Soldiers, WWI, WWII, Bataan, Korea and Vietnam to the recent Gulf Wars at the American Legion Hall.

Mechanical and hand thinning to resume - Little Walnut area

Project continues to reduce wildfire threat in high risk areas near Silver City, New Mexico

SILVER CITY, NM, Nov. 13, 2023 – The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District plans to resume thinning with heavy machinery and chainsaws in the Little Walnut area Wednesday, November 15 in the Little Walnut area. The project includes two units for mastication by heavy machinery in Unit 6 (179 acres) and Unit 4 (41 acres). This use of heavy machinery adjacent to the Gomez Peak trailhead may result in short-term closures of the Continental Divide Trail north of Little Walnut Road.

Quemado Ranger District closed Wednesday, November 15, 2023

Office closure allows all employees to participate in annual training meeting

QUEMADO, NM, November 13, 2023 – The Gila National Forest, Quemado Ranger District office will be closed Wednesday, November 15 for an all-employee safety meeting away from the office.
“Safety training and employee development opportunities are for all employees, not just those who work in the field,” said Quemado District Ranger Randall Chavez. “Closing the office for one day is an inconvenience to customers but allows all staff to participate equally in activities meant for all.”

Normal hours and services will resume at the Quemado Ranger District on Thursday, November 16. Those needing assistance on Wednesday may reach out to the Reserve Ranger District at 575-533-6232, located at 5 Smokey Bear Circle in Reserve as the next closest option. Thanksgiving Holiday, Silver Schools will be closed

In observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday, Silver Schools will be closed November 22, through November 24, 2023 and Cliff Schools will be closed November 22 & 23, 2023.
Regular class schedules will resume on Monday, November 27, 2023.
 
District Administration Offices will be closed from November 22 through November 24, 2023.
Regular business hours will resume on Monday, November 27, 2023.

Per Catron County. Received call advising she does not feel safe with passenger/he is intoxicated/he threw her phone out the window/they are pulled over. Deputy advised everything is okay.

Caller advised a female walked into her house and is refusing to leave/caller doesn't know her/she is homeless. Dispatcher can hear the female in the background say "Really?" Female mentioned she was afraid to go home. Caller thinks something is wrong with her.

Caller just arrived at a named female's home/she is possibly in her 60s/caller advised she is cold. Officer advised to send OMI and the doc.

Welfare check
SCPD
Female walked in asking for Narcan/when she was asked questions she became nervous and left. Officer made contact with female at Swan and 8th/she advised she wanted it just in case/no one was in need of it right now.

Off of Montana and Cheyenne/advised her neighbor's smoke detector has been going off for the past hour and a half/cannot see or smell any smoke or flames. Officer had contact with caller./ Officer had contact with neighbor who had the smoke detector outside because it wouldn't stop going off.

Caller advised a male is on the property and will not leave/wants a CTW issued. Officer advised negative contact with vehicle.
