Caller is nephew/hasn't heard from 87-year-old female since last week. Deputy advised negative on anyone at the house at this time.

GNF offices to be closed for Veterans Day

Gila National Forest offices to be closed Friday for Veterans Day
Recreation fees waived Saturday, November 11

SILVER CITY, NM, November 8, 2022 – All Gila National Forest offices will be closed Friday, November 10 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. Offices will resume normal operations at 8:00 a.m. Monday, November 13.

“Veterans Day gives us an opportunity to reflect on and appreciate the sacrifices of those who stand to defend our freedoms by entering into military service,” said Gila National Forest Supervisor Camille Howes. “I hope you’ll take a moment to thank a veteran for their military service this Veterans Day.”

Gila National Forest reminds visitors to be careful with fire

SILVER CITY, NM, November 7, 2022 – Gila National Forest reminds visitors to be careful with fire by extinguishing all campfires when they are not attended. Conditions are dryer than normal, and with precipitation in October falling well below average, fire danger conditions are edging back up to “high” across most of the Gila. 

“This year, the Gila has experienced fewer human-caused wildfires than in most years, and we would like to maintain that trend,” said Gila National Forest Supervisor Camille Howes. “Please be sure to extinguish your campfire when it is not attended, so that your campfire doesn’t become our next wildfire.”

Sophia Whiting to speak at Rotary Meeting

SophiaWhitingSophia Whiting of hospice care." will be the Rotary speaker on November 14, 2023. Topic will be: “Some of the myths and facts about Hospice.” Whiting has been working in the senior health care community for over 20 years as a geriatric care manager, hospice social worker and hospice liaison.  She will be speaking on behalf of Amber Care Hospice.

The Rotary meeting will be held at the Silver Bowling Center, Ten Pin Lounge at 2020 Memory Lane, Silver City from 12-1 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. If you desire lunch, order from the menu in the cafeteria and it will be delivered to your table.

Monday Meeting With The Mayor

Silver City Mayor Ken Ladner would like to invite your input, ideas and inspirations toward making our town even better.

This month's "Monday Meeting With The Mayor" will be November 13th, in the J. Cloyd Miller Library Forum Area at Western New Mexico University anytime between 8:00AM to 11:00AM. Because of construction on the north side of the library, parking is only available in the south parking lot by the Administration Building. Entry is through the Student Memorial Center then to the third floor to the WNMU Library.

All are invited to stop by anytime between 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and share  your insights and ideas with Mayor Ladner.

And, enjoy a drink or cup of coffee, compliments of WNMU.
