Santa Fe – House Republicans are expressing support for an emergency disaster declaration for Chaves County after severe storms with tornadoes caused major damage. According to reports, tornados touched down near Dexter and Hagerman late Tuesday afternoon damaging homes and injuring residents.
“We want to do all we can to help those affected by these awful storms,” said Rep. Candy Ezzell (R-Roswell). “We will support local leaders in any way to ensure state resources are available to help. This is when our community steps up and helps their neighbors who have been hit the hardest.”
“We want to express our deep gratitude for the first responders who continue to help the victims of these storms,” said Rep. Greg Nibert (R-Roswell). “These storms have damaged homes, businesses and disrupted the lives of so many; we want to get them help as soon as possible.”
“This is a tragedy for our area and they need our help,” said Rep. Phelps Anderson (R-Roswell). “We will be doing all we can to help our neighbors overcome this terrible event.”
“An emergency declaration means those first responders helping us overcome this tragedy will be able to get the support they need quickly,” said Rep. Jim Townsend (R-Artesia). “We will continue to push for assistance to help everyone in need.”
Representatives Ezzell, Nibert, Anderson and Townsend all expressed support for an emergency declaration from the county commission and the Governor to free up funds to help the victims of the storms.
