Santa Fe – Today, Rep. Abbas Akhil (D-Albuquerque) released the following statement regarding the terrorist attacks on mosques in New Zealand:
“The news coming out of New Zealand is heartbreaking. No person – regardless of their faith or background – deserves to be targeted and killed at their place of worship. These terrorist attacks on Muslims are unconscionable and run contrary to our values as human beings. The purpose of faith is to find peace and fulfillment – not to spread hatred and bigotry. Let this stand as a reminder, that the words we use matter. We must strive to be examples of tolerance in all we do, we must strive to be the light in the darkness,” said Rep. Abbas Akhil. “My heart is with those affected in New Zealand, and today I will join my fellow New Mexicans to mourn this loss.”
This afternoon, the House of Representatives observed a moment of silence for the victims of these attacks, and for the Muslim community around the globe.
