Santa Fe, N.M. – Following the legislative session, Representative Javier Martínez received the Ohtli Award from the Mexican Government, one of the highest honors given to those living outside Mexico. The Ohtli Award is bestowed upon leaders that have made significant contributions to the Mexican community in the United States and will be conferred at the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) conference.
"When my parents left our hometown almost 30 years ago, they had big dreams. I stand on their shoulders each and every day," said Representative Javier Martínez. "Thank you to NABE and the Mexican government for this very touching award. I'm proud of where we came from as a family, and I'm excited about where we are going as a community."
The House Democratic Caucus congratulates Representative Martínez on this accomplishment. We will continue to fight for all New Mexicans, especially our immigrant communities and our most vulnerable.
