WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement in response to passage of the Republican health care bill today:

"I am deeply disappointed and quite frankly very angry that this is where we are - giving huge bonuses to health insurance and pharmaceutical companies, and putting corporations over people. This Republican plan leaves the very sick and very poor populations without any access or options. It raises costs for women, seniors and vulnerable populations, while families are left to fend for themselves.

"There are so many things that we could be doing in this country today to reinvest in a relationship between patients, consumers and their health care providers, and ensuring health care is a right. We should be negotiating drug prices and making insurance transparent.

"Instead, Republicans are focused on providing tax breaks for the wealthy while denying health care to people who need it the most."
