Have your script performed by local professional actors

The New Mexico Film Foundation, in partnership with New Mexico Women in Film, announces a new Stage Reading series through its Tale Writers Screenwriting program. We are inviting New Mexico screenwriters to submit a variety of script formats and genres to NMFF. Our professional team will select works that will be performed by professional directors and actors. The readings, which will occur approximately every 3 months, will each have a specific format. The first reading will take place in October 2017 in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Applications for the first round, open to all, will be accepted August 1 through August 31.

In the professional world, producers and their readers will only read, at most, the first 10 pages of a script/screenplay. With that in mind, our first format will be pages 1-10 of your completed, or to be completed, script in any genre – feature-length. Our second search is for an episodic script based on an existing TV series such as Better Call Saul, Night Shift etc. These are called spec scripts. The writer must understand the show he/she is writing for, and it must be a series that is considered widely familiar for our judges.

Our Tale Writers Screenwriting program seeks to help New Mexico Screenwriters “up their game” as professional screenwriters. By demanding the best in screenwriting, the screenwriter will be challenged to produce industry standard quality work. Stage readings are of great benefit to screenwriters, allowing their written words to come to life providing a realistic depiction of the characters and the action. By recruiting local directors and actors we seek to bring attention to the great acting and directing talent we have in New Mexico as well. Screenwriters will work with directors during the casting process.

The submission process will be open to New Mexico residents only, with no fee for submitting. In some cases the submissions will be judged and finalists invited to have their work part of a stage reading. In other cases, finalists will be chosen who will be matched with mentors to fine tune their work.

Submissions will be open on August 1st and can be submitted by following the link below: https://www.talewriters.org/stage-readings/
