More than one million low-income households across the country are now connected to high-speed internet, making it possible for kids and parents to access news, complete homework assignments, search for jobs and stay connected to their friends and family as the 2017-2018 school year begins.

On August 15, Comcast announced that its Internet Essentials program, the nation's largest and most comprehensive high-speed Internet adoption program for low-income Americans, has now connected more than four million low-income Americans to high-speed Internet service at home.

The program attempts to addresses each of the three major barriers to broadband adoption – digital literacy, access to computer equipment, and affordable Internet service. In New Mexico, Comcast has connected 88,000 low-income New Mexicans in 22,000 households to the power of the internet in their homes through Internet Essentials.

Have You Gone Mobile? Xfinity Mobile Program Expands Even Further to Go Where You Go

Translation: If you're an Xfinity Mobile customer, and you are near an Xfinity hotspot, your mobile device will automatically connect you to a safe and high-speed Wi-Fi connection, saving you money on mobile data use. You also have the option to turn Wi-Fi off in places where cellular data might be faster or more reliable.

Need to send work email from your road trip through the Rockies? Want to stream videos with your kids from the park? Love to stay connected to social media without going over on your data plan? You can.

With monthly rates or pay-by-the-gig plans, the program is truly customizable to give each customer the best in connectivity.

"I realized I had been over-charged by my old carrier for a while and the service wasn't very good," said Nadine B. of Albuquerque, who switched to Xfinity Mobile in July. "I'm enjoying the affordable price, simplicity and quality service of Xfinity Mobile."

University of New Mexico Students Gain Access to New Entertainment Options

Do you have a favorite movie to watch at the end of a long school week? Do you stockpile episodes of your favorite TV shows?

Students who live on campus at the University of New Mexico can now watch live TV, On Demand shows, and recorded programming on their laptops, smartphones, Roku players, or other devices.

Comcast announced this month that it's bringing its Xfinity On Campus service to the university, allowing students to access the best of Xfinity service, including more than 80 live channels, and thousands of current season TV shows and hit movies via Xfinity On Demand.
