August 24, 2017—The National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC) honored the JSI New Hampshire office (the Community Health Institute) with a 2017 Berreth Awards for Excellence in Public Health Communication and honorable mention during last week's National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing and Media. The awards are named for the late Donald Berreth, former director of the Office of Public Affairs for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and NPHIC's founder.

JSI received the bronze medal in Corporate Health Marketing for Tick-Free NH, a grassroots Lyme disease prevention campaign in New Hampshire. The target audiences for the campaign include parents of children ages 2-13 and outdoor enthusiasts. This campaign educates the public on how to prevent tick encounters and contraction of Lyme disease. It includes video public service announcements, social media, kid-friendly print materials, a website, and local events. More than 75,000 materials have been distributed to over 1,500 schools, camps, and day care centers statewide.

Also, JSI was recognized with an honorable mention in Corporate Health Marketing for Anyone. Anytime.NH™. The goal of the statewide public awareness campaign, which was conducted in two phases over two years, was to educate the public about the opioid epidemic in New Hampshire, the benefits and availability of Naloxone as a rescue drug in the event of overdose, the legal protections covered by the Good Samaritan law, and available treatment and recovery services. Anyone.Anytime.NH™, funded by the NH Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services, included paid television, radio, newspapers, billboard, mass transit, and shopping mall kiosks ads, social media, and community outreach materials and events. Anyone.Anytime.NH™ was recognized in "Facing Addiction in America: The Surgeon General's Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health" in 2016.
