HOBBS – Steve Pearce made this statement after learning of the passing of former United States Sen. Pete Domenici:

“Pete Domenici was a tremendous leader who put New Mexico first, without fail, every single time. The list of his accomplishments for our state is almost too long to consider. Since before he even left office, he has been an iconic figure in New Mexico and an example for anyone who has been called to public service, regardless of party affiliation. Pete Domenici set the bar for serving New Mexicans and I’m honored to call him a friend and a mentor. Cynthia and I are sad to learn of his death but we also celebrate his legacy as a leader, a fighter, and a statesman. Our prayers are with his family as they mourn his passing.”

I had the great privilege of working closely with Senator Domenici over the years, and fostered a relationship with him as a friend, mentor, and leader. He didn’t hesitate to put every single New Mexican before himself and fought tirelessly to make sure opportunities for a better life were available to all. He was a titan – a fighter – and his work for the wellness and prosperity of New Mexico will forever be remembered. There are no words that can ease the pain we share today, but together we can make sure his legacy lives on.”
