portrait domeniciThe board and staff of New Mexico First send our condolences to the family of U.S. Senator Pete V. Domenici, and also to the many people throughout the state and nation who mourn the lawmaker’s passing today. We cherish Senator Domenici’s legacy of bipartisan collaboration. We also applaud his tenacious advocacy for our state and his vision for an even brighter tomorrow.

During Senator Domenici’s tenure in Washington, he led policy initiatives on the budget process, energy, mental health parity and nuclear nonproliferation. He served 36 years, becoming New Mexico's longest serving U.S. senator. After retiring as a lawmaker, he served as a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, DC.

Senator Domenici co-founded New Mexico First in 1986, in equal partnership with now retired U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman. Our organization expresses deep appreciation for the lifetime of hard work and dedication by Senator Domenici for our Land of Enchantment.
