Albuquerque, NM – Rep. David Adkins (R-Albuquerque) and a 10-person relief team will depart to Houston later this week to assist in Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts. The team of volunteers from New Covenant Church in Albuquerque will deliver donated money and supplies to people affected by the powerful storm.

While in Houston, the team of volunteers will work with Samaritan's Purse, an international relief organization, to help residents remove debris, clean their homes, and begin the rebuilding process. The team leaves for Houston on Friday, September 22 and will return on Friday, September 29.

Beds4Kidz, an Albuquerque program initiated by television host Steve Stucker, has partnered with the relief effort to gather needed supplies for Houston-area residents. Beds4Kidz collected 50 queen-sized mattresses for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, and Adkins' team will deliver those mattresses later this week.

Adkins and his team of volunteers also will distribute $10,000 in direct cash assistance to disaster victims. The money was raised by the employees of FootPrints Home Care and matched by the company. Adkins sits on the Board of Directors for FootPrints.

"The residents of Houston and its surrounding communities will be dealing with the devastating impacts of this tragic event for years," Adkins said. "This mission is one way we can provide comfort, supplies, and financial assistance to our neighbors in Texas as they rebuild their homes and communities."

Adkins added, "I am grateful for the work, time, and money donated by the volunteers from New Covenant Church and the employees of FootPrints. The compassion and generosity of these New Mexicans make me proud to be part of this effort."
