From PNM: "We recently were informed that the California utility that originally requested mutual assistance has cancelled their request for the time being. PNM will not be sending crews to CA at this time. If anything changes in the future we will let everyone know."

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – PNM line crews have been asked to head out to California to assist with power restoration after a series of historically deadly fires have ravaged the state.

Approximately 22 PNM linemen and six other support staff from Northern and Southern New Mexico will leave to drive to California. All mutual assistance crews will meet Friday, Oct. 13 at 10:00 am at the Electric Service Center in Albuquerque, located at 4201 Edith Blvd NE. Everyone will leave from the Service Center around 11:00 am, following a safety briefing. Crews plan to start work immediately on Sunday, Oct. 15 after arriving late on Saturday, Oct. 14.

"This is something that happens throughout the community of line work," said Zach Johnson, operations manager for the Metro and Northern New Mexico line departments. "When fires or weather cause devastation like what we are seeing in California, utilities from around the country will gather and do what they can to assist in getting the power on safely and quickly to the customers in that area. We are all family, and families help each other," Zach continued.

The crews anticipate staying in California for 10 – 14 days, but will reassess and stay if additional help is requested.
