WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall welcomed Facebook's announcement that it will triple the size of its Los Lunas data center, with plans to construct a total of six buildings and invest more than $1 billion in the project:

"Facebook's announcement is a testament to what New Mexico can accomplish when we work together to harness the unique strengths of our state and our workforce. The expansion of this project will further energize economic development in Los Lunas and the entire state, adding much needed jobs and helping to diversify the state's economy. New Mexico has the talent that companies need to thrive in this increasingly competitive global economy – and we're excited to see that Facebook has recognized what our state has to offer. New Mexico is the ideal location for this data center, which Facebook has committed to powering with 100 percent renewable energy. Our state can be a leader in the global clean energy economy, and this facility is an important step toward that goal.

"I congratulate everyone in Los Lunas and throughout New Mexico who worked so hard to make this critical investment in New Mexico's future a reality. I'm proud to have worked with local leaders and my partners in the congressional delegation to help secure this project, and I'll continue to do all I can to support the community of Los Lunas as they work to make this undertaking a big success. Together, we can make Los Lunas the beginning of New Mexico's very own Silicon Valle."
