The New Mexico Film Office announces HBO's new drama series "Succession" to film In New Mexico

Santa Fe, N.M. - New Mexico Film Office Director Nick Maniatis announced today that the new HBO Drama series "Succession" will begin principal photography in New Mexico after shooting previous episodes in New York. Production on the episode being filmed in New Mexico will begin in mid-January and run through the end of January.

"'Succession' starts off 2018 in what we are confident will be another booming year of production for our film industry in New Mexico," said New Mexico Film Office Director Nick Maniatis. "We welcome HBO and are positive our scenery, crew and infrastructure will give them everything they need to be successful."

The production will employ 89 New Mexico crew members and approximately 75 New Mexico background talent.

The HBO series is created by Jesse Armstrong and executive produced by Armstrong, Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell, Jane Tranter and Mark Mylod. "Succession" follows the Roy family - Logan Roy and his four adult children - who control one of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerates in the world. The series tracks the lives of the key members of the Roy family as they grapple with what the future will hold for them as their aging father begins to take a step back from the company. The series stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Hiam Abbass, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Natalie Gold, Peter Friedman and Rob Yang.

In 2013 Governor Martinez strengthened New Mexico's film incentive program by signing a bipartisan job creation and tax reform package designed to diversify the economy and make the state more competitive. Among other things, this legislation increased the incentive rate for qualifying productions. Since 2013, the film industry has brought record-breaking levels of investment to New Mexico, totaling over $1 billion, and record-levels of worker days at over 1 million.
