Washington, DC (February 8, 2018) On September 5, 2017, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, more commonly known as DACA, would end on March 5, 2018. Since them, Rep. Steve Pearce has been working with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find a common-ground solution that provides certainty for the nearly 800,000 immigrants affected.

Rep. Pearce introduced his own bill as a permanent fix for DACA recipients, allowing them stay in the United States so they can continue to work, go to school, and provide for their families. This bill picked up local support in New Mexico early on.

The Las Cruces Sun News wrote, “we credit U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, R-NM, for taking the initiative in introducing compromise legislation to deal with one of this area’s most pressing legislative issues – the need to offer protection from deportation for young immigrants brought into the country illegally as children.”
