ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Democrats from every corner of New Mexico gathered in Albuquerque to cast their votes at the Pre-Primary Convention today in Albuquerque, New Mexico. U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-Albuquerque), earned more than 66% of the votes. Her name will appear first on the ballot in the June 5th Democratic primary.

The results were consistent with a poll released recently showing Congresswoman Lujan Grisham leading the crowded primary field with 72 percent of the vote.

"I am honored to have received such resounding support from Democrats across all of New Mexico," said Congresswoman Lujan Grisham. "I have been talking to working people in every corner of the state about the issues that matter most to them and their families, and I want them to know that i hear their voices and that I will fight for them. I'm running to ensure that all New Mexicans, no matter who you are or where you're from, have access to a quality education, affordable health care, and a good paying job. I am profoundly grateful to all my supporters who cast their vote of confidence in me today."

More than 1400 Democrats who were selected as delegates by their local committees cast ballots in today's election. Lujan Grisham has earned the backing of a wide variety of groups from EMILY's List, Latino Victory Fund, and Planned Parenthood to 13 labor unions including the American Federation of Teachers New Mexico, the New Mexico State Council of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Ironworkers Local Union 495, IATSE Local 423, the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 412, the Teamsters Local 492, the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1564, the New Mexico Building & Construction Trades Council, the Operating Engineers Local #953, the United Steelworkers, the New Mexico Professional Firefighters Association, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Local 823, and the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers Local 351.
