WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) issued the following statement in support of students calling for action on gun violence:
"Like so many Americans, I have been deeply moved by the high school students and young people across the nation who have spoken out after losing classmates and friends to gun violence, and are demanding that lawmakers take action to prevent future tragedies. It's unacceptable that students and teachers are afraid to go to class each morning after the terrifying shootings not just in Parkland, Newtown and Las Vegas—but also in Aztec and Clovis, New Mexico. No parent should have to live in fear of their child not coming home from school.
"Despite the odds, I will continue fighting for real solutions to reduce gun violence in our communities. Today, and every day I stand with New Mexicans who are raising their voices to say never again. We all need to listen to the students, parents, and teachers who are calling on us to be part of the solution."
