SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) joins in the American Nurses Association's celebration of the nation's more than three million registered nurses, the largest health care profession, during National Nurses Week May 6-12.

"Our nurses are one of our greatest resources in creating a culture of health and making health a shared value statewide," said Department of Health Secretary Lynn Gallagher. "It is through their leadership, advocacy, and care that we will reach our goals of a healthier New Mexico."

The 2018 National Nurses Week theme is: Nurses: Inspire, Innovate, Influence. In their daily role, nurses achieve and execute these tenets in everything they do to advance the health of New Mexico families and communities.

NMDOH employs nearly 300 nurses statewide. National Nurses Week ends Saturday, May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.
