Red River, New Mexico – The Ute Park Fire, which is currently burning north of Cimarron, is still an active fire but not expected to spread any closer to Red River. The fire is being driven north east of Cimarron by heavy winds. HWY 64 between Cimarron and Eagle Nest and State Rd 204 in Cimarron are closed, with no estimated time of re-opening currently. For visitors to Red River, the attached link is an alternate route to Red River from Springer, NM.

Red River has offered housing to the Fire Fighters and First Responders and is also supplying food and supplies to the Hotshot crews. The Red River Fire Department is fully staffed and on standby as needed to assist in fighting the fire.

Carson National Forest, which surrounds Red River, is open for recreational use. Open flames of any kind, including campfires are banned under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions. However off-road vehicle usage, hiking, camping and other activities are still allowed.
