Santa Fe, NM – Today, officials of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, State Parks Division, announced Cimarron Canyon State Park will remain closed through at least Sunday, July 8th due to extreme fire danger. The recent Ute Park Fire demonstrated the severity of current fire conditions when it grew to more than 16,000 acres in just 24 hours on June 1st. The fire is currently estimated to have burned 36,740 acres.

While the Ute Park Fire is currently 92 percent contained, persistent dry conditions have increased fire danger within Cimarron Canyon State Park. State Park officials will monitor changing weather conditions and open the park as soon as the threat of fire is significantly reduced.

Officials also announced Manzano Mountains State Park and the Las Tusas Recreation Area within Bluewater Lake State Park will close due to extreme fire danger. The closure will be effective Friday, June 15th at 8 a.m. and will remain until further notice. The closure will coincide with full public-access closures on the Mountainair and Mount Taylor Ranger Districts of the Cibola National Forest announced this week by the U.S. Forest Service.

Fenton Lake, Hyde Memorial, and Morphy Lake State Parks remain closed due to extreme fire danger and coincide with a full public-access closure on the Santa Fe National Forest by the U.S. Forest Service.

Visitors who have reserved campsites at any of these parks during the closure should contact Reserve America at 1-877-664-7787 for refunds/transfers of pre-paid reservable campsites due to the park closure.
