Santa Fe, NM – State Auditor Wayne Johnson today released the long-anticipated City of Santa Fe comprehensive annual financial report. The report, covering fiscal year 2017 that ended June 30, 2017, cites problems with adequate internal controls and processes over city finances. City leaders have outlined a corrective action plan that includes 10 first steps they believe will help get the City's finances back in order.
 
"I appreciate Mayor Webber's pro-active approach to overhauling the city's finances and accounting for public dollars," said Johnson. "The Mayor and I spoke several times throughout this process and he has taken steps to hire people with the right experience and knowledge to safeguard public funds, ensure proper fiscal management, and provide Santa Fe citizens with good and transparent government. That is a goal we share, and I look forward to working with Mayor Webber towards these objectives."

The audit contains a modified opinion with respect to controls and reporting of capital assets and 14 findings pertaining to various deficiencies, weaknesses and areas of noncompliance. The most severe findings relate to problems with reconciliation of capital projects and processes over review and reconciliation of other account balances.
