Se recomienda a 950 usuarios a hervir el agua antes de beberla

SANTA FE - La Oficina de Agua Potable (DWB) del Departamentode Medio Ambiente de Nuevo México confirma que se requiere el "Aviso Precautorio de Hervir el Agua" para la Asociación de Consumidores de Agua Doméstica Mutua (MDWCA) de San Antonio ubicada en el condado de Socorro.

Se requiere a la MDWCA de San Antonio que emita el aviso el 17 de julio de 2018 después de que una inundación grave causó una rotura de una línea importante de agua y un cambio en la presión del sistema de agua en la MDWCA de San Antonio. Como resultado de la ruptura de la línea de agua y la pérdida de presión, el agua de la inundación puede haber ingresado al sistema de distribución. Los Reglamentos de Agua Potable de Nuevo México requieren que la MDWCA de San Antonio notifique a sus consumidores del sistema de agua sobre este hallazgo tan pronto como sea posible, pero a más tardar 24 horas después de que se haya emitido el aviso de ebullición precautorio.

La MDWCA de San Antonio es un sistema público de agua de la comunidad que atiende a aproximadamente 950 usuarios. Este aviso se aplica al agua potable de la MDWCA de San Antonio, y no se extiende a ningún otro sistema de agua circundante.

Se recomienda a los usuarios de la MDWCA de San Antonio a hervir el agua durante un minuto (3 minutos si están por encima de 6.500 pies de elevación) antes de beber, cocinar, lavar frutas y verduras, alimentar a bebés, cepillarse los dientes, preparar bebidas, hacer hielo y darles agua potable a las mascotas

La pérdida de presión en el sistema de agua puede haber permitido que aguas contaminadas, aguas residuales, desechos de animales u organismos causantes de enfermedades ingresen al sistema de agua potable. La mayoría de las cepas de E. coli son inofensivas y viven en los intestinos de seres humanos y de animales sanos. Este tipo de organismos pueden causar enfermedades gastrointestinales graves y, en casos raros, la muerte. Los niños, los ancianos y las personas inmunodeprimidas tienen un mayor riesgo a enfermar.

La Oficina de Agua Potable de NMED proporcionará supervisión de cumplimiento y ofrecerá asistencia técnica para el sistema de agua, yrequerirá que la MDWCA de San Antonio continúe probando el agua hasta que no quede más amenaza de contaminación.
