The 12th Annual Day of the Tread, presented by True Health New Mexico and benefitting various non-profit organizations, is set for October 28. In the last 11 years, nearly 20,000 cyclists have participated in the annual fundraising event. Day of the Tread is known for its fun Day of the Dead inspired costumes that are seen on the roads surrounding Albuquerque one day every year. This year's event brings back the favorites and some new twists including:

The Rail Runner nine-mile Family Ride, a 12-mile ride that includes a ride on the Rail Runner, 26-, 50-, 62-, and 100-mile routes.

One of the highlights and favorite recharge zones is the famous El Pinto, located in Albuquerque's scenic north Valley. El Pinto has supported the event every year since its inception.

Last year, people from 26 states participated in the event. The event offers special hotel discounts at Hyatt Regency Albuquerque, the Doubletree and Hotel Andaluz, all walking distance to the start and finish of the event.

All proceeds benefit Pegasus Legal Services for Children, Zia Freewheelers Adaptive Cycling and Esperanza Bike Shop, among others.
