First New Mexican to be Recognized in the Show’s History

Albuquerque, NM – September 11, 2018– Mary Ellen Chavez, sole proprietor of New Mexico eatery, Burritos Alinstante and Sonrisa Farms, recently received top honors during the internationally renowned Egyptian Event, an Arabian horse show held by The Pyramid Society in Lexington, Kentucky. She is the first New Mexican in the history of the show to receive the honor.

In its 37th year, the show recognizes the finest Egyptian Arabian horses, a unique group of Arabian horses known for their classic beauty and ideal Arabian characteristics. Chavez’ horse, Mikeen El Masr—an eight-year old grey stallion—won the Event’s highest honor, Senior Champion Straight Egyptian Stallion, as well as the award of Most Classic Head. Mikeen El Masr was chosen unanimously by a panel of judges from Europe, Great Britain, the Middle East and the United States.

“I’m humbled to have received such a prestigious honor, especially as the first New Mexican to do so,” said Chavez. “The Pyramid Society event attracts the finest Egyptian Arabian horses from around the globe, and past winners of the coveted titles have included Saudi Arabian princes, sheikhs from Qatar and famous horse breeders from around the globe. To have Mikeen El Masr recognized among these great horses is truly incredible.”
