Otero County, NM - On September 15, 2018 at about 8:30 p.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on US Highway 70 around mile post 185 between Alamogordo and Las Cruces.

The initial investigation indicated a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic was traveling east on US 70 at a high rate of speed. For unknown reasons the Chevrolet left the roadway and rolled. The driver of the Chevrolet, a twenty-year-old Virginia male from Holloman Air Force Base sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

A twenty-year-old male passenger from Vermont was transported for unknown injuries. The driver will not be identified until his family has been properly notified. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash and the driver does not appear to have properly worn his seatbelt. The crash is still under investigation and no additional information is currently available.
