Colfax County, NM - On September 17, 2018 at around 10:00 a.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on Interstate 25 at about mile post 419 near Springer.

The initial investigation indicates a 2014 Ford Fusion was traveling north on Interstate 25, for reasons that are still under investigation, the Ford lost control and rolled several times.

A three-month-old male infant in the Ford suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The twenty-one-year-old male driver and twenty-one-year-old female passenger, both of Denver, CO, received unknown injuries.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash. There are currently no charges pending for the driver or passenger, so their names will not be released at this time.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts do not appear to have been properly utilized. The New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit has been activated to investigate this crash. No additional information will be available until after the Crash Reconstruction Unit has completed their investigation.
