SANTA FE — The Family First Prevention Services Act Subcommittee, appointed by the New Mexico Legislative Council to explore the state's plans for implementing the provisions of the federal Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA), will meet on Monday and Tuesday, November 19 and 20, 2018, and on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. each day.  The meeting will be webcast and accessible by clicking "Webast" on  the legislature's website here.

The FFPSA was enacted on February 9, 2018 as part of the federal Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 (H.R. 1892).  The FFPSA allows states to use Title IV-E funds, which are provided to states for foster care and adoption assistance, for certain types of family supports services aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect and for keeping children in their homes safely through the provision of family support services.

Experts from Casey Family Programs and the National Conference of State Legislatures will provide attendees with an overview of the FFPSA, including opportunities for federal funding and obligations for states that seek federal funding.

Officials from the Children, Youth and Families Department will discuss that department's compliance with the FFPSA and application for FFPSA funds.
