Say “Goodbye” to Cabin Fever and Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Alamogordo, NM – November 19, 2018 – With temperate weather year-round and plenty of sunshine throughout the winter months, Alamogordo, New Mexico is the place to enjoy outdoor adventures throughout the winter. While other areas of the state are experiencing colder temperatures and freezes, winter in Alamogordo is perfect for hiking, biking, and golfing.

“In many areas, it’s snowy, icy, and cold, making it hard to get outdoors and enjoy nature,” said Michelle Brideaux, Communications & Marketing Administrator for the City of Alamogordo. “In Alamogordo, you can enjoy the time off around the holiday season, while still taking part in the activities you miss from summertime.”

With a wide array of outdoor activities, Alamogordo is well known as the home to White Sands National Monument. With gleaming white dunes for almost 300 square miles, White Sands is perfect for camping, hiking, biking, sledding, picnicking, and even horseback riding, all while enjoying the breathtaking scenery.

For golfers, Alamogordo offers an 18-hole golf course—Desert Lakes Golf Course—that’s as beautiful as it is challenging. Extend your outdoor adventure and soak up nature with a visit Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, where the water flows throughout the year and creates a peaceful oasis in Dog Canyon.

“If the winter blues are getting the best of you this year, start a new winter tradition and visit Southern New Mexico,” added Brideaux.  “While you’re in town, don’t forget to check out local shops, our amazing zoo, beautiful museums, and try some of the incredible nuts grown in the area, as well as our local wines.”

After a day of adventures, Alamogordo offers plenty of opportunities to unwind and enjoy local offerings. Visitors can stop at PistachoLand, take a photo with the World’s Largest Pistachio, enjoy local wines and locally grown pistachios, and tour the farm. Additionally, Heart of the Desert features the largest pistachio groves in New Mexico, wines, and gourmet foods, including cookies and candies. In addition to delicious treats, Heart of the Desert will be celebrating the holidays with a special Holiday at the Ranch event, taking place on December 2. The event includes hayrides, photos with Santa, crafts, games and holiday specials. Complete with souvenirs, locally made goods, and holiday gift options, PistachioLand and Heart of the Desert both offer a glimpse into the food, lifestyle, and culture of Alamogordo.
