Guadalupe County, NM - On December 8, 2018 at around 2:30 p.m., New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 40 around mile post 245 west of Santa Rosa.  

The initial investigation indicated a 2015 Peterbilt was traveling east merging onto eastbound Interstate 40 when it was rear-ended by an eastbound 2014 Freightliner. The passenger in the Freightliner, a sixty-two-year-old man of Las Vegas, NV was not properly utilizing his seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries in the crash. 

The driver of the Freightliner, a fifty-eight-year-old male from Chicago, IL received injuries not believed to be life threatening. The driver of the Peterbilt, a fifty-six-year-old man from Tonopah, AZ was uninjured.  

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor and seatbelts were not properly used. This crash is still under investigation by the New Mexico State Police. No additional information is currently available.
