Farmington to Host Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative Basecamp

Farmington, NM— December 11, 2018 –Farmington, New Mexico is known as the destination for active families and outdoor lovers. With visitors coming throughout the year to experience the great outdoors, adventure travel and recreation, Farmington is a booming location for outdoor recreation businesses. Due to the success of current outdoor recreation businesses and the developing new opportunities, Farmington will host the Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative Basecamp on February 1 and 2 at the Civic Center. 

“Farmington energizes the life journeys of outdoor lovers,” said Tonya Stinson, Executive Director for Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau. “People from all over visit Farmington for exciting outdoor adventures, and we’re thrilled to be a part of bringing in new business ideas to spur economic development and increase the offerings available to future visitors. Farmington is a great place to live, work, stay and play, and we encourage all budding entrepreneurs to attend and learn how to jumpstart their business.” 

Presented by the City of Farmington, Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative, Four Corners Economic Development, and San Juan College Enterprise Center, the workshop welcomes entrepreneurs to learn about the opportunities available through Farmington’s outdoor amenities, resources and initiatives. Participants will enjoy two days of learning, networking with like-minded business leaders and touring available areas to set up shop.  It’s also a perfect workshop for outdoor recreation businesses based in other areas looking to expand into Farmington. 

“We want everyone to know that Farmington has bountiful opportunities for outdoor lovers to follow their passion, and create meaningful career options,” said Cory Styron, Director of Outdoor Recreation for the City of Farmington. “This workshop is designed to share those opportunities and provide contacts, information and resources to make them come to life. Farmington is a place where outdoor lovers and active families thrive, and we are here to provide the tools to make that happen."

Attendees will learn how to pitch their business for funding, how to launch their business, how to best reach their target market, and how to navigate BLM recreation permits, among other informative sessions and a resource fair. The dynamic workshop will bring together economic development teams, industry leaders, the business community and entrepreneurs to outline a plan for success for outdoor recreation businesses in Farmington. 

Early registration is open until January 18 at a discounted price of $59. Regular registration is $79, and day-of registration is $99.
