Alamogordo, NM – December 12, 2018 – Located less than a half-hour drive away from one of the southernmost ski areas in the United States, Alamogordo, New Mexico offers a wide array of affordable lodging and dining options, as well as exciting and memorable attractions. Alamogordo serves as an ideal basecamp for an adventurous winter trip, with plenty of activities to keep every member of the family entertained.

“Oftentimes, the holiday season and winter months involve spending large amounts of money to make memories,” said Michelle Brideaux, Communications & Marketing Administrator for the City of Alamogordo. “This winter, we encourage families to opt for a budget-friendly vacation that will prove memorable and exciting—without breaking the bank. With Ski Cloudcroft right up the road, visitors to southern New Mexico can enjoy an amazing ski trip, while returning to enjoy Alamogordo’s outdoor attractions, experiential tours, museums, wineries and restaurants.”

In addition to skiing and ice skating, visitors can make it a “White Christmas” at White Sands National Monument. For those who come earlier in December, White Sands provides a picturesque backdrop for holiday photos, and for visitors throughout the winter, White Sands offers year-round opportunities for camping, sledding, picnicking and exploring.

For outdoor lovers, Alamogordo features temperate winter weather, great for hiking, biking, and golfing. For those traveling with children, options for entertainment abound. History, learning and fun collide at the Toy Train Depot Museum, where visitors can ride a small-scale train around Alameda Park, view hundreds of model trains, and see the world’s smallest scaled working train. Home to Alameda Park Zoo and the New Mexico Museum of Space History, kids and explorers of all ages will find activities to delight and entertain.

New Mexico also has a lengthy history of wine making. Wine lovers and experiential travelers will revel in the chance to sample local wines and eat locally grown pistachios and pecans. With several options to choose from, many locations offer chances to tour the vineyards and farms, take home a taste of New Mexico from the gift shop, and learn about the rich history of New Mexico wine.

“Whether you’re looking for a relaxing and rejuvenating break from the daily hustle and bustle, or you’re planning a trip to go, see and do, Alamogordo has options for every traveler and every member of the family,” added Brideaux. “Alamogordo is the place to be this winter for anyone wanting a well-rounded, affordable trip that’ll create lasting memories for years to come.”
