For those who come earlier in December, White Sands provides a picturesque backdrop for holiday photos, and for visitors throughout the winter, White Sands offers year-round opportunities for camping, sledding, picnicking and exploring. 

For outdoor lovers, Alamogordo features temperate winter weather, great for hiking, biking, and golfing. For those traveling with children, options for entertainment abound. History, learning and fun collide at the Toy Train Depot Museum, where visitors can ride a small-scale train around Alameda Park, view hundreds of model trains, and see the world’s smallest scaled working train. Home to Alameda Park Zoo and the New Mexico Museum of Space History, kids and explorers of all ages will find activities to delight and entertain. 

New Mexico also has a lengthy history of wine making. Wine lovers and experiential travelers will revel in the chance to sample local wines and eat locally grown pistachios and pecans.
