Dona Ana County, NM - On December 31, 2018 at about 10:00 a.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash at the intersection of Industrial Avenue and Avenida Creel in Dona Ana County.

The initial investigation indicated an International Tractor Trailer hauling an oversized load was traveling south on Industrial Avenue and was making a right-hand turn onto Avenida Creel. During the turn, a portion of the oversized load extended into the north bound lane of Industrial Avenue. A Ford truck driven by Eleazar Garcia-Chavez (59), of El Paso was traveling north on Industrial and collided with the oversized load that had extended into his lane. Garcia-Chavez was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized. The wide load carrier is facing numerous administrative violations. The crash is still under investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
