Otero County, NM - On February 10, 2019 at about 3:00 a.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 54 around mile post 70 just north of Alamogordo.  

The initial investigation indicated a 2008 Ford truck driven by a thirty-four-year-old Alamogordo man was traveling north in the north bound lane of U.S. Highway 54.  For unknown reasons Faustino J Salcido (38) of Alamogordo walked into the north bound lane of U.S. 54 from the east.   The Ford struck and killed Salcido.  Salcido was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

The driver of the Ford, who will not be named, was not injured.  The driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol and is not currently facing charges. 

The New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit was called in to assist in the investigation.  The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
