Low-cost financing available for wastewater-related projects

SANTE FE — Applications are now being accepted for funding through the New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund.

This program provides low-cost financing for projects that protect surface and ground water resources. Funding is available for, but not limited to, wastewater treatment systems, storm water projects, sewer interceptors and collectors and groundwater protection at landfills.

The fund can also be used to harden wastewater infrastructure against the potential impacts of climate change. Additionally, the program can be used to fund alternative energy sources including wind and solar to reduce operational expenses at wastewater treatment facilities

“With interest rates from zero to 2.375 percent, you would be hard-pressed to find a better way to finance a project,” said Judi Kahl, NMED Construction Programs Bureau Chief. “Past projects that have used this fund have greatly benefited New Mexican communities and the environment.”

Counties, municipalities, Native American tribes, water and sanitation districts and mutual domestic associations are encouraged to apply.

NMED’s Construction Programs Bureau will accept applications for Fiscal Year 2020 projects from March 1 through April 12, 2019.
