LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Bovine trichomoniasis is a disease that can cause cattle producers to lose valuable income.

A free workshop providing trich and vaccination updates for cattle producers in San Miguel and Mora counties will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Luna Community College Cafeteria, 366 Luna Drive, Las Vegas.

“Agriculture is vital to Mora and San Miguel counties’ economy with 33 percent of Mora County and 8 percent of the San Miguel County workforce involved in agricultural fields,” said Suzanne Cole, agricultural agent at New Mexico State University’s Cooperative Extension Service office in Mora County. “In order to ensure success, it is vital for ranchers to keep up with the latest information.” 

NMSU’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences is hosting the event. John Wenzel, NMSU Extension veterinarian, and a New Mexico Livestock Board inspector will present an update on the disease presence in the region, and the importance of vaccinations for the cattle’s health and profitability.
