The Patterson Fire burning on private land in Chaves County is currently estimated at 450 acres and 0% contained.. The fire is located southeast of Roswell, NM and west of Bottomless Lakes State Park on both sides of the Pecos River. At least one home and Bottomless Lakes State Park have been evacuated due to the wildfire threat and smoke. Structures along the east side of the Pecos River remain threatened. Lightning is believed to have started the fire last night (05/16) around 7:00 p.m. Approximately 50-60 personnel are currently fighting the fire with additional firefighters from the New Mexico State Forestry Returning Heroes Program in route.
