New location increases patient capacity
SANTA FE - The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) reports Turquoise Lodge Hospital (TLH), the department’s hub for drug and alcohol treatment services in the northern part of the state, will complete its move to its new location next week.
The site, located at 5400 Gibson Blvd SE, is the site of the Gibson Medical Center. The move has been coordinated with Bernalillo County government in a joint effort, first reported last September, to better align both state and county resources to address the behavioral health and substance misuse treatment needs both in the county and region.
“I am proud and appreciative of the steps both government agencies have taken to work together and enhance services,” said NMDOH Cabinet Secretary Kathy Kunkel. “The new location allows our Turquoise Lodge Hospital to add eight additional beds for medical detox and social rehabilitation”
TLH’s new leased space can also lends itself to outpatient programming growth in the future. The hospital’s old location at 5901 Zuni Rd. SE will be absorbed by Bernalillo County’s Metropolitan Assessment Treatment Services (MATS) campus which has used only part of the existing structure.
"This next step signifies our joint commitment to filling gaps in the behavioral health system as well as our dedication to expanding needed and highly used services,” said Katrina Hotrum-Lopez, Director of Bernalillo County’s Department of Behavioral Health Services “We're excited for this new chapter and improving access to quality care."
Founded in 1952, Turquoise Lodge Hospital, provides substance abuse treatment to adult northern New Mexico residents 18 years and older. Priority patients for all services include pregnant women who are IV drug users and men & women in the process of regaining custody of their children. TLH serves more than 1,300 patients annually.
The NMDOH also operates the New Mexico Rehabilitation Center (NMRC) in Roswell, which offers identical services for southern New Mexico.
