July 8 meeting is the first of quarterly public outreach meetings

LOS ALAMOS — The New Mexico Environment Department is pleased to announce the first of its new quarterly public engagement meetings to discuss issues related to the scientific monitoring and regulation of Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The first meeting will be from 5:30-7 p.m. July 8 in the Pajarito Room of the Fuller Lodge, 2132 Central Ave., Los Alamos, NM 87544. The primary topic of the meeting will be the mission and work of the Environment Department’s Department of Energy Oversight Bureau, as well as a discussion on a proposed move of the Bureau’s Los Alamos Field Office.

“We have heard from employees, community members and stakeholders on this proposed move and look forward to continuing this dialogue on July 8,” said Environment Department Secretary James Kenney. “Through state procurement processes, we are actively working toward finding a location in Los Alamos County for our staff that allows us to accomplish our mission.”

Subsequent meetings will cover other topics of interest to the community.

Anyone needing interpretation or assistance at the July 8 meeting should contact Department of Energy Oversight Bureau Chief Susan A. Lucas Kamat at (505)383-2074 or susan.lucaskamat@state.nm.us.
