E.A. Sween Company has announced the recall of multiple food products due to possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall was initiated by Tip Top Poultry, Inc., which provides ingredients to two of E.A. Sween’s suppliers: The Suter Company, Inc., and Baja Foods LLC, which provide chicken salad products and burritos, respectively, to E.A. Sween. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not received any reports of Listeria-related illnesses related to these products.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

E.A. Sween has instructed retailers to remove affected products from store shelves and inventory immediately. Customers of the company, including retailers of the affected products, with questions are asked to call the E.A. Sween Customer Service hotline at 1-800-328-8184 and select #6 for information and refund instructions. Photos of the affected products are below.

Affected products may have been delivered in the Continental United States, Hawaii and Guam through convenience stores and grocery and mass retail outlets. Consumers may return the affected product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund or exchange. If the product has been consumed, please call the E.A. Sween Consumer Hotline, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST Monday through Friday at 1-800-328-8184 and select #5.
