Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham requests support from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in recovery efforts across Mora County  

Santa Fe, NM – Gov. Michele Lujan Grisham sent a letter this week to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requesting advanced protective measures to limit flooding off the Hermit’s Peak-Calf Canyon burn scar. This request from Gov. Lujan Grisham allows the Army Corps to design, engineer and construct barriers to protect public infrastructure including roads, bridges and buildings in Mora County.  

“We all must work together to support the communities in Mora County impacted by the devastating fire last year,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. “The assistance provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to create these large-scale temporary protections is one more tool we can use as these areas work toward recovery.” 

“The New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management continues to look for additional ways to support communities who are experiencing flooding after last summer’s wildfires. The advanced protective measures Governor Lujan Grisham has requested the Army Corps provide will help protect communities’ infrastructure while they work to rebuild,” said Secretary David Dye.
