AIPP MISSIONThe Art in Public Places Program enriches New Mexico's public spaces through an innovative and diverse public art collection. Since its inception in 1986, the program has placed more than 2,500 works of art in all of New Mexico's 33 counties. Our goal is to reflect the diversity of the arts in New Mexico, the Southwest, and nation while building a dynamic public art collection for the State of New Mexico. Through a fair and open public process, local and regional selection committees work with New Mexico Arts to select artwork for their communities. The Art in Public Places Program also commissions large-scale projects that are designed for integration directly into the architecture of a building or purchases existing original artworks to be placed in public buildings. The objective of the Large-Scale Purchase Initiative is to diversify the state's public art collection by purchasing artwork from artists in all stages of their career. All media in all genres, suitable for both interior and exterior display, will be considered. Artwork must be durable, permanent, low-maintenance, and in compliance with ADA guidelines upon installation. PROJECT AMOUNT$50,000-$200,000, all-inclusive. Purchase contracts will be a $50,000 minimum for each artwork. Artworks must be submitted with an "all-inclusive" price (artwork, identification plaque, delivery, and secure/permanent installation on site, including any concrete pad required). Prior to joining New Mexico Arts, Olivia worked for the School for Advanced Research (SAR) where she facilitated museum education, community outreach initiatives and oversaw public programs, including the Native Artist Fellowship Program. She has also worked with the Tucson Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA Tucson) in Arizona. While there, she contributed to the planning and execution of community-based education programs for diverse audiences. Previous experience includes working in K-12 art classrooms, gallery management and she served as an Indigenous Educator Corps (IEC) member at the Native American Community Academy (NACA) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Olivia received a dual-major BFA in Illustration & Design as well as Art and Visual Culture Education, with an emphasis in Community Engagement and Museums, from the University of Arizona. She went on to receive an MA in Art Education from the University of New Mexico. Olivia is passionate about collaborative programming, cultural revitalization, and community-based arts. |

Based on the successes of the inaugural round of mini grant funding to NM organizations, New Mexico Arts, the state's arts agency, announces the Arts & The Military 2024 Mini Grants funding opportunity for arts organizations and veteran-focused organizations to create or expand opportunities for veterans and active-duty service members to engage with the arts. The Storyknife residency provides women with the time and space to explore their craft without distraction. Residencies at Storyknife in Homer, Alaska, are either for two or four weeks, with food and lodging covered during the period of their residency. Travel to and from Homer, Alaska, is the responsibility of the resident. Applicants must be woman-identified, 21 years or older, and applying as an individual artist. There is a fee of $40. The NM Hispanic Heritage Committee is asking for submissions for a Hispanic Heritage Month 2023's 3rd Annual Commemorative Poster. This year's National Theme is: "Todos Somos, Somos Uno, We Are All, We Are One". All media options are accepted. The winning poster submission will receive a $500 stipend and special recognition at our Kick Off event, Closing Ceremony, Corazon de Cultura Award Ceremony and through out Hispanic Heritage Month. The poster will be printed, displayed, and shared as a fundraising effort for NMHHC which will allow the artist an opportunity to create collaborative relationships in the Albuquerque community and abroad. Important Submission Details: This local call for original art is open to New Mexico based artists. This Month's Book Club Selection
HARWOOD CENTENNIAL100 Works for 100 Years The Harwood Museum of Art in Taos houses among the finest collections of New Mexican and Southwest art. In celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the museum, this publication highlights one hundred works drawn from more than 6,500 objects collected since its establishment. The book encompasses the museum's rich history and highlights works ranging from twentieth and twenty-first century paintings, photography, Spanish colonial style religious art, and paintings and works on paper by renowned Native artists. This publication features one hundred works representing the museum's diverse collections. Among the luminary artists selected are Gustave Baumann, Agnes Martin, Judy Chicago, Beatrice Mandelbaum and Fritz Scholder, as well as Taos Society of Artist members Ernest Blumenschein, Bert Geer Phillips, and Oscar Berninghaus. Taos Moderns artists include Andrew Dasburg, Patricinio Barela, and Marsden Hartley. Hispanic religious artists include Jose Rafael Aragon and Victor Goler; as well as contemporary artists including Nicholas Herrera. Steller Native artists featured in the book are Tony Abeyta, Harrison Begay, Jaune Quick-to-See and Mateo Romero. The Harwood's photography collections include images by iconic early photographers William Henry Jackson and Ansel Adams, in addition to more recent photography by living photographers Miguel Gandert, Gus Foster and Cara Romero.
