Carolyn Havens rsCarolyn Havens passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2017, with family close. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 2:30 pm at The Masonic Cemetery. She had fought a battle with cancer since 2014 going through numerous surgeries and procedures to halt the progression.

She was born Carolyn Elizabeth McNary to John A. and Elizabeth McNary on November 9, 1937 in Tucson, Arizona. The family moved to the Phoenix area during WWII where Carolyn attended school,. She graduated with honors from Mesa High and continued her education at Arizona State University on full scholarship after winning the National Science Fair scholarship for Arizona.

After two years of college, with no set goal in mind, she left college to explore life. She married William Harris and with him had two boys, Robin and Page Harris. She continued working for ASU in several capacities through the 1960s.

Later divorced, she married Bill Quinn who moved the family to Silver City in 1968, Mr, Quinn was in the automobile business and Carolyn worked alongside as bookkeeper and general office manager. She also participated in many of the clubs and volunteer groups in the area. She was president of Newcomers, President of the Jr. Woman's Club and held many offices with the local General Federation of Woman's Club here in Silver City.

With the Silver City Woman's Club she was most active as chairman of the eye and ear testing for both the Head Start program and the public and private schools. The eye testing is done in conjunction with the local Lion's Club, and each year upwards of 700 children are tested for eye problems.

Continuing her education in the early 1900s Carolyn received both a BA and her Masters degrees from Western. She went to work for Western New Mexico University as an instructor until 1993 when she became a registered appraiser. She later partnered in a local appraiser company.

Mr. Quinn passed away in 1992, and she later married Kenneth Havens in 2001 who became her guiding light through her retirement years. She was very fond of all the children, grandchildren, and the extended family of step-children, Her passions after retiring were card making, quilting, travel and working with the Woman's Club. She loved to dance and became one of the leaders for the local Stompers Line Dance group.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth, sons Robin Harris of Globe, AZ, and Page Harris and wife Rebecca of Silver City and grand daughter Amber Spencer of Safford, AZ. Step children Kenneth Havens Jr and wife Marcelyn of Houston, TX; Karen Roberts and husband Michael of Silver City, and Andrew Havens and wife Dorie of Gallup, NM. Craig Quinn and wife Riana of Port Aransas, and numerous step grand children and great grand children. Brother John H. McNary and wife Priscilla of Mesa, Az, and sister Patricia Ovitt and husband Rod of Payson, AZ.

She was proceeded in death by both parents, step children William Quinn, Tracy Quinn and Carolyn Kelley.

A reception will be held at the Silver City Woman's Club on Friday, May 12, 2017, at 3:30 to which the public is invited.
