Tina Hernandez rsErnestina "Tina" L. Hernandez, 89, of Bayard passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Tina was born on December 14, 1927 to Porfirio Luna and Lilia Acosta Luna in Solomon, Arizona and was raised by Horacio D. Guerra and Victoriana L. Guerra. She lived in Bayard since 1952, was a homemaker and raised her four children. Tina was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and became a Guadalupana in 1969. She taught catechism and often volunteered in the kitchen during Our Lady of Fatima bazaars, bingos and many other fiestas. One of Tina's great accomplishments was that she received her GED in May of 1976. She was also active member in community serving as co-chairperson in the Breath of Life Campaign that was part of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Tina is survived by her children, Eva Chavira Maestas and Albert L. Chavira of Santa Fe, Edna M. Chavira (Mando) of Bayard and Eugene F. Hernandez (Kathy) of Las Cruces; ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; three half sisters, Blanche L. De La Cruz of Safford, AZ, Jessie L. Primm of Oxnard, CA and Sylvia L. Peru of Oracle, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus R. Hernandez.

The Prayer Vigil and Rosary will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at six thirty in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels. Officiating will be Deacon Art Gutierrez. The Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at ten o'clock in the morning at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Concluding services and burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City. Officiating will be Father Abraham Soliz. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Gilbert M. Garcia, David D. Garcia, Chris J. Garcia, Antonio Hernandez, Erik D. Chavira and Hideki Nakazono. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stephanie Chavira, Andrew Hernandez, Jacob Hernandez, Angelica Hernandez and Chevo Chavira.
