Mary Kathryn (Katy) Lewis Hofacket, completed her earthy journey at the age of 87 on Friday October 6, 2017 after a long illness.

She began her life journey in Long Beach California. She joined her parents, Clarence Raymond (C.R.) and Winnie Lee Spratt Lewis and her brother and sister on January 28, 1930.
Three years later, the family moved to Deming, New Mexico and farmed on what is now the Donaldson farm.

Katy grew up in Deming and graduated from Deming High School in 1947. Then she attended New Mexico Teacher's College (now Western New Mexico University) in Silver City.

It was there that she met the love of her life, a lanky WWII Navy veteran, Russell (Rusty) Coleman Hofacket. Married in August of 1949, they lived in Miami Arizona for one
year and moved back to town in 1950.

There they had three children, Michael (Mike) Lewis, Rickmond Ed (who survived only a few weeks), and Paula Ree.

As a coach's wife, she attended Wildcat sporting events all her life. Even after Rusty's retirement, she had numerous events in which her grandchildren were active. Her love for the Wildcats and her community was infectious and spread through her family and friends. She also loved her job at the New Mexico State Highway department and retired in 1990 after 24 years.

Katy was active in many civic and charitable organizations including the Deming-Luna County Mimbres Museum, Deming Hospice, the Hospital Auxiliary, and several City and County committees. She was a member of Xi Beta Gamma chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Golden Gossip, and the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed playing bridge, politics, volunteering, reading, traveling, and spending time with her large family and her numerous friends.
