anne maxwell rsAnne Christina Pennington Maxwell was born March 4, 1925, in London, KY, and passed peacefully surrounded by her family, Tuesday October 10, 2017 in Silver City, NM at the age of 92.

Anne was a longtime resident of Grant County. After graduating from High School she attended University of Arizona, she returned to Silver City to elope and marry her lifelong sweetheart, Curtis L. Maxwell, and together they established several businesses in Reserve and Silver City. Anne worked with the U.S. Forest Service and owned and operated a cattle ranch with Curtis in Reserve.

Anne is probably best remembered for building a successful department store, The Maxwell House in Silver City, which she and Curtis opened in 1965. Anne lived her life with passion. She lived vivaciously, loved deeply and forgave quickly. She was an optimist and her family's biggest cheerleader. One of the most fun loving and smart individuals, but also a great prayer warrior. She never met a stranger and you felt loved in her presence. She loved and cared for her friends and employees like they were family. She gave freely and generously, and shared her faith with everyone she met. She was a gifted pianist, loved books, music and people. She was a true and loving mother. She was one in a million.

Anne is survived by her four children, three sons, David(Cathy) of Silver City, Paul Maxwell of Tucson, Arizona, and Steve Maxwell of Silver City: one daughter, Missy Maxwell Worton(Mark) of Franklin, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, Shannon(Casey), Gabriel, Rebecca(Chris), Michael(Adriana), Zach(Ashlee), Ian, Holly, Chloe, Matthew, McKenzie, Shewit, and Favor; 11 great-grandchildren, Belinda(Sheldon), Brandon(Ashley), Whitney, Amaziah, Kiera, Zephan, Xander, Ezra, Kendall, Noah and Gracie;; and four great-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Owen, David Layne, and Bentley. Anne became the mother figure to Yelena Shadrina Ouderkirk and Katia Tyurina-Cordova(deceased), who moved from Russia to play basketball at WNMU.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Curtis Lile Maxwell Jr. of Silver City.

A visitation will be held Sunday, Oct 15th from 4-5:30p.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapel. The Funeral Service will take place Monday, Oct 16th, at 9a.m. at Harvest Christian Fellowship followed by the concluding services and interment at 11a.m. at Fort Bayard National Cemetary. Serving as pallbearers will be: Gabriel, Michael, Zach and Ian Maxwell, Matt Worton, Brandon Chitwood, Chris Hill and Casey Salars. Honorary pallbearers are Shewit Worton, Benji Salaiz, Ben Wilson, Lyn Wilson. Officiated by Mark Worton.
