judy richards rsIt is with a sad heart that we announce the death of our feisty Italian mom. Judith Ann Richards (formerly known as Judy Newman) passed away at home on February 5, 2018 surrounded by her family. Judy was born August 31, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Guy Richards & Ann (Taglioli) Richards and grew up in Washington state and Aiken, South Carolina.

Judy became a registered nurse at age 21 and spent over 45 years in the profession. For nine years, Judy worked for Deming Public Schools serving the children of Luna County. She was fondly referred to as "mom" by all and was extremely honored when the class of 1986 chose her to speak at their graduation ceremony. After leaving the schools, Judy began working at Mimbres Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home where she excelled in both floor nursing and management. Later in her career she became a regional liaison for long-term care facilities in New Mexico and Texas and ensured high quality care for the residents. She continued in that position until her retirement. While her professional life was rich, her grandchildren brought her the most joy and she loved them without end.

Judy is survived by her brother, Tom Richards; two daughters, Debbie Armijo and husband Nick; Vicki Chávez and husband Mike; her grandchildren, Michael Nunley (Denise), Joslynn Chávez-Garcia (Adrian), Lauren Verduzco (Chris), Evan Chávez (Marie); great-grandchildren, Ryann Nunely, Adriana Verduzco, Matthew Nunley, and Christopher Verduzco; and her beloved four-legged companion of 16 years, JD (Judy's Dog) Richards.

Through the services of Ambercare Hospice, our mom was able to pass in the comfort of home surrounded by her family. Donations in her name to Ambercare would be greatly appreciated.

At Judy's request, cremation has taken place and the family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later date.
