Faye Saunders Hooks, 88, a resident of Silver City died on April 3, 2018 at Gila Regional Medical Center.

She was born January 10, 1930 in Berwyn, OK to Dumas T. and Ruby Conway Saunders.

She worked 11 years for the Bell Telephone Company both in Oklahoma and New Mexico plus various other places before retiring with the USDA Forest Service with 17 years of service in Silver City.

She and her husband moved to Silver City in 1951 from Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Billy J. Hooks of the family home; one daughter, Cheri Kay Hooks Layton (Stephen) of Seappoose, OR; three grandsons, Christopher A. Layton (Melanie) of St. Helens, OR; Charles A. Layton of Seappoose, OR and Jeremy D. Layton (Carrie) of Kelso WA; two great-grandchildren, William and Madeline of St. Helens, OR. Faye is also survived by one brother, Henry M. Saunders (Frances) of Roswell, NM; plus several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Faye was preceded in death by one son, Larry Neal Hooks; one brother, Denny C. Saunders of Las Cruces; (twin brother of Henry Saunders); and her parents.

Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory. Inurnment will be Tuesday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.

A remembrance gathering will be announced at a later date.
